Classic Scones Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
  • ½ cup heavy cream (plus extra for brushing)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (or almond extract)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Cut in the butter using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture looks like coarse crumbs.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together heavy cream, egg, and vanilla.
  5. Gently mix wet ingredients into the dry ingredients until just combined. Do not overmix!
  6. Turn dough onto a floured surface, gently knead 2-3 times, and shape into a 1-inch thick circle.
  7. Cut into 8 wedges and place on the baking sheet.
  8. Brush with extra cream and sprinkle with sugar for a golden, crispy top.
